The Sockburn play-oligists puts the equipment to a test.

W.A.L.T. write descriptive accurate sentences using full stops and capitals.

The whole of Sockburn School explored the equipment to see what we would like at our new school.

One piece of the equipment that I didn’t like I loved was the two flying foxes. I  liked them because it was fun to have a race with other people. The flying foxes are on this biggish smallish hill. The hill has fake grass on it. So you go up the hill and wait in line. Then when it's your turn you hop on and go. When you go on it there is light bark and when you get to the end, there are these tyres and when you hit the tyres the flying fox will swing so you need to hold on tight. There are poles and thick strong wires holding the tyres up. When you hit the tyres there is also a little hill there just encase you want to get off there. The flying foxes are orange and gray. It’s awesome!

Another one that I loved is  the GIANT slide. The slide was made out of metal and luckily it has rails on the side of it to stop people from falling off. The slide is made out of metal and sometimes metal slides hurt. I think we should have the slide because it fits at least five or six people on at a time. To get up to the slide there are these little whale things that you hold onto so you could get up. It was fantastic going down the slide. I didn’t have to hold onto the little whale things because I could get up almost without hands! Mrs Boswell fell down the hill when we were at the playground and it was kind of funny.

The lucky last thing that I loved was the sea sore there. But when the sea sore goes down it hurts because the thing that it hits is very hard. But it only hurts sometimes. The sea sore could fit four people on it because it had two seats joint together on one side and then two seats joint together on the other side. I think we should have it because then four people can go at a time. I went on the sea sore with Adelaide, Maggie and Isla. It was super fun.

Return ticket to Mars

Knowledge: List 5 fact that you learnt from the text.

1.  If you went to Venus the wind will crush you because it travels at nearly 400 Km an hour.

2. If you are on mars and you try to radio message people then it will take four minutes and twenty seconds to reach you!

3. If you’re on mars then you will have to drink sweat as water!!!

4.If you went to Venus you also won’t be able to breath so I would never want to go there.

5. Planet Mars is very very cold and even in summer.

Comprehension: Why do spacecraft go to Mars and not Venus? What are the problems with sending people to Mars?

They don’t go to Venus because it is very hard to breath. Infact you won’t be able to breath at all! The other reason is that the wind is super strong it can crush a human body!!! The problems with Mars is that people won’t be able to breath because there is only carbon dioxide which is what we breath out. The other problem is there is dust storms and they last for months!

Application: Choose four specialist words from the text and find their definition.

  1. Processed:To perform a series of mechanical or chemical operations on (something) in order to change or preserve it.
  2. Primitive:Relating to, denoting or, preserving the character of an early stage.
  3. Sojourner: Means from old french sojourner Vulgar Latin subdiurnare (unattested) to spend a day from latin sub-during + late latin diurnum day.
  4. Meteorites: A piece of rock or metal that has fallen to earth’s surface from out of space as a meteore.

Analysis: Would you like to go on a trip to Mars? Why or why not?

I would like to go to Mars because I want to see what it looks like in real life and so I can float. But if I go to Mars I would like my mum and friends to come and their parents.

Synthesis- New ideas: create a poster/infographic/google drawing about what you have read to put up in the classroom. Include information you have learnt from the text.

I did a drawing.
